Staff Bios


Ebony Johnson, Ph.D., Executive Director

Ebony received her Bachelors Degree from Tuskegee University with a major in Psychology. She has a master’s degree in Criminal Justice and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from The University of Alabama. She has been employed with The Tuscaloosa Children's Center for 17 years. She began as a graduate intern with the Education Coordinator in June 2003. She accepted the position as the Child & Family Advocate in August 2004 and served in that position until September 2011. Iris Hines, Child & Family Advocate

Iris began as the Child & Family Advocate in August 2018. She received her Bachelors Degree from Troy University-Troy Campus with a major in Human Services and a minor in Case Management. Her job duties include providing education and emotional support to non-offending caregivers, referring clients to forensic medical examinations, and conducting behavioral assessments with clients referred to counseling. Prior to working at TCC, Iris served as the Family Advocate for Pike, Coffee, Barbour and Bullock counties. In the near future, Iris will be trained as a forensic interviewer. Sharon Whitfield, Forensic Interviewer

Sharon  is a Licensed Certified Social Worker who received her Bachelor's Degree from Eastern Kentucky University in Psychology. She later received her Masters degree from The University of Alabama in Social Work. Before coming to TCC she held many jobs in the field, including a position as child abuse and neglect supervisor in the state department of human resources. Janie Plaxco, Counselor

Janie is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She has a Masters in Counseling from The University of Alabama. After working at Indian Rivers Mental Health Center in Tuscaloosa for 9 years, she opened her private practice 25 years ago. Her office is at The Tuscaloosa Children's Center, Inc. where she provides counseling for abused children and their non-offending caregivers. Additionally, in private practice Janie sees children with a wide variety of issues. Her specialties include trauma, foster care and adoption, attachment issues, anxiety and behavior problems. Pamela Truelove-Walker, Ed.D., Parent Coordinator

Pamela has a Masters degree in Human Development and Family Studies and an Ed.D. in Teaching and Learning. Education, P-12. She has been employed by The Tuscaloosa Children’s Center since 2016. Sandy Campbell, Bookkeeper

Sandy began as the Bookkeeper in April 2018. She graduated from The University of Alabama with a bachelors degree in Commerce and Business Administration. She handles the fiscal responsibilities for The Tuscaloosa Children's Center, Inc.
